Full Gear Hockey Equipment List

When listed as 'FULL GEAR REQUIRED', the following equipment is mandatory:

  • HELMET WITH FACE CAGE: Mandatory for all youth players and highly recommended for all players. Must be approved by the Hockey Equipment Certification Council (HECC).
  • MOUTH GUARD: Mandatory for all youth players and highly recommended for all players.
  • NECK GUARD/LACERATION PROTECTOR: Mandatory for all youth players (and strongly recommended for 18+) in USA Hockey sanctioned events as of August 1, 2024.  HECC or BNQ certified protectors are required.
  • SHOULDER PADS: Offer protection for the shoulder blades, muscles, chest, ribs, back, collar bone, and upper arms.
  • ELBOW PADS: Protect the elbows and forearms.  They should fit snugly, meeting the bottom of the shoulder pads and extending to the top of the gloves.
  • HOCKEY PANTS: Protect the lower spine, hips, thighs, groin, waist, buttocks, and tailbone. Should overlap shin pad kneecaps by 1-2 inches.
  • SHIN GUARDS: Essential for protecting the knees and shins.
  • JOCK (OR JILL) WITH PROTECTIVE CUP: Crucial for groin protection.
  • GLOVES: Protect the hands and forearms from sticks, pucks, and boards.
  • SKATES: The most essential piece of equipment. Need to be laced tightly to prevent ankle bending.
  • STICK: Used for shooting and passing. Length should generally extend from the ice to the player's chin (with skates on).
